Taming the beast

It may be hard to believe that we at Big Limos want to help preserve the environment, especially considering that the majority of limousines we build are SUV stretch limos, often thought of as monsters of the road. Hey, they way we look at it, SUV’s are the monsters, we just tame them.

Reduce traffic & pollution

When cars carry more than one passenger they are allowed to ride in the carpool lane because it’s helpful to the environment. A limousine carries alot more than 2 people at a time, which cuts down on pollution, cuts down on traffic, uses less gas over all, and of course gets to travel in the carpool lane.

Consider the numbers

If you consider the numbers, you may be surprised at how fuel efficient an SUV stretch can be. An H2 stretch, filled to max capacity (26 passengers) averages about 6mpg, this translates to about 0.23mpg per person. A regular non stretch H2 with seats filled, averages about 12 mpg, which is about 2.4 mpg per person.

Paying attention to nature

Having our home base in Southern California makes us even more aware of the need for a clean environment. This is the land of cars, the land of driving, and the land of soccer moms in enormous SUV’s. It’s also the land of the sparkling Pacific, palm trees and orange groves, none of which can survive without us paying attention to Nature.What we do today affect our customers of tomorrow, so every time we complete work on a new limousine, we plant a tree as a constant reminder that we need to do more.

Doing our bit

Bottom line, we can’t cure the existing pollution in our world today, however we can take steps to help eliminate future pollution and that starts with responsible production facilities, proper waste disposal and of course carpooling at every opportunity.So next time you are traveling with more than a handful of people, take a limo, its better for the environment. Considering America’s love/hate relationship with the H2, why has it become one of the most popular and requested SUV’s to stretch, and one of the most requested limousines to rent?

Braving the storm

The H2 is an SUV that people love to hate. We love it because it has noble and tough roots; the original hummer helps American soldiers fight wars.It gives us a sense of camaraderie with those who are braving the storm on our behalf.The downside to this is the obvious over consumption that leads to its addiction to oil. It becomes a catch 22 as we are going into battle driving the very vehicles that force our dependence on the oil industry.

An American Symbol

We love it because it cradles us in its strong, safe, leather clad embrace. The H2′s immense size and weight (it weighs 8400 lbs. stock!) give us the feeling of security and it is truly a symbol of America’s ‘bigness’.A list of the H2′s pros and cons would hardly be complete without a nod to its horrible gas mileage. Ford’s Model T, the first car ever mass produced, got twice the lowly 9 miles to the gallon the H2 offers, now that’s perspective.However, in its defense the H2 seems to take the heat for all the gas guzzling SUV’s out there. The reality is all SUV’s use alot of gas, but limousines are far more fuel efficient on a per passenger basis. So using an SUV to stretch makes perfect sense and the Hummer is the perfect choice.

Safety, comfort and style

Bottom line, when shopping for a limousine, people aren’t looking for the most fuel efficient vehicle out there, they are looking for safety, comfort, presence and style. These are things the H2 has in excess, when you show up in an H2 stretch; everyone looks.

Energy efficient expedition

According to a recent article in Wired, Steve Wozniak (the co-founder of Apple) will travel to the South Pole in a Hydrogen powered Hummer H1.Due to commence in December 2007, the group will drive an H1 that uses hydrogen fuel cells as its energy source and film the expedition for a new 3D James Cameron film.

Raising awareness

This sounds like a fun adventure, will raise some awareness for Hydrogen fuel cell technology, which appears to be a viable alternative to gas (though not quite yet for us) and will probably make a good film too.Fortunately for Wozniak, his co pilot happens to be none other than Buzz Aldrin (the co pilot on the lunar landings in 1969).Though, Steve, you really should have sent your H1 to us to be stretched first, that way you could relax, watch a DVD, drink and enjoy the trip while someone else does all the hard work.Lets hope all goes well for the team and we will give you more information as it becomes available, including hopefully, a look at the preparation and vehicle details.As a side note, the H1 was recently discontinued.

A strange combination

Billed as the “Summer of Hummer”, Mcdonalds are to offer toy Hummers with their Happy Meals. Yeah, unfortunately they are not giving away actual Hummers, but these toys are pretty cool nonetheless, and any excuse to put up a picture as strange as the one above is always appreciated.

Manufactured by Mattel, Inc. There are 8 cars to collect, to get the full set (that includes the H1, H1 SUV, H2 SUV, H2 SUT, H3 SUV, H3X, H3T and even an H2H hydrogen version) you are going to need to eat about 2 happy meals a week, as the promotion ends on Aug 31st. (H2H & H1 toys pictured)

Turning heads

The Volkswagen Phaeton Lounge was revealed at the 2005 Dubai Motor show, and designed by Volkswagen Individual, this stretch limousine has turned heads. Especially in the luxury driven market of Dubai.Leave it to Volkswagen to be the first to come up with something as fresh and innovative as a 4 wheel drive limousine.

German build quality

Known for their superior German handling and minimalist yet classy interiors, the Volkswagen has been a popular automobile manufacturer in America for the last several decades.

A 420 horsepower W12 engine propels the Phaeton stretch. It was built from 3 Phaeton bodies, all reinforced in Volkswagen’s tradition for superior safety.Because of its 22 foot size it is limited to a ceiling speed of 112 mph, which is ok because who wants to get anywhere fast when sitting in the perfectly adjusted leather seat of the Phaeton stretch?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Reviews have come back mixed as to the look of the Phaeton stretch. Some say it looks like a stretched Passat, a mid size sedan whose appeal is aimed at young professionals.Others say that it is decadent and looks like it would appeal to royalty.Whatever your opinion, you have to admit that a 4 wheel drive stretch is pretty cool, and that 4 wheel drive might even come in handy.
